A massive fire erupted on March 14, 2025, in the Sachin GIDC area of Surat, engulfing multiple industrial units and causing extensive damage.
Cause and Origin of the Fire
The blaze originated at Platinum International Textile Mills, located on Road No. 17 in the Hojiwala Industrial Estate. The fire was triggered by a blast in the distribution panel (DP) of Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL), leading to a short circuit. This electrical malfunction ignited a large quantity of yarn stored in the textile mill. The flames rapidly spread to the adjacent Parth Plastic Company, resulting in thick smoke visible from 7 to 8 kilometers away.
Firefighting Efforts
More than five fire brigade vehicles from the Hojiwala Fire Station were dispatched to the scene to combat the inferno. Firefighters faced significant challenges due to the highly flammable materials involved, including yarn and plastic products. Despite their relentless efforts, the fire continued to rage for several hours before being brought under control.
Casualties and Injuries
Fortunately, as the incident occurred during the Holi holiday, no workers were present in the factories at the time. Consequently, no casualties or injuries have been reported. however firefighters were seen trying to cool down the blazes for 10 to 15 hours.

The massive fire caused alarm among local residents and business owners. The thick smoke and flames were visible from several kilometers away, prompting concerns about air quality and environmental hazards. Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and avoid the affected area until the situation is fully under control.
