Surat’s Limbayat-Dindoli Underpass: Gujarat’s Longest Underpass Inaugurated

Gujarat longest underpass

In a significant infrastructure milestone, Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, inaugurated the Limbayat-Dindoli Connecting Underpass near Sai Baba Temple in the Udhna Yard area on Sunday. The newly built Surat’s underpass, spanning 503 meters, has earned the distinction of being the longest underpass in Gujarat. Developed through a collaborative effort between the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Indian Railways, the project aims to enhance traffic efficiency and connectivity in Surat’s Limbayat zone.

A Game-Changer for Traffic and Connectivity

Built at a cost of ₹53.58 crore, the underpass is expected to ease congestion and provide direct access between Limbayat and Dindoli, which were previously separated by the Surat-Bhusawal railway line. Before the underpass, residents of Limbayat and Navagam had to take a 2-3 km detour to reach their destinations. Now, with the new infrastructure in place, the distance can be covered in just 500 meters, significantly reducing travel time and fuel consumption. The underpass is a vital transportation route, accommodating approximately 60,000 vehicles daily.

Minister C. R. Patil highlighted the project’s importance and praised the advanced engineering techniques used in its construction. Since seven railway lines pass above the underpass, ensuring structural stability was a key priority. To enhance commuter safety and comfort, an advanced outdoor air conditioning system has been installed to maintain adequate oxygen levels, addressing ventilation concerns for vehicle users.

Boosting Business and Industrial Growth

Apart from easing daily commutes, this Surat’s underpass is expected to benefit local businesses and industries. Surat, known as Gujarat’s economic hub, relies heavily on seamless transportation networks for industrial operations. The new underpass will facilitate smoother movement of goods and workers, strengthening the region’s economic activities.

Surat: A Model for Infrastructure Development

During the inauguration, C. R. Patil also commended the Surat Municipal Corporation for its proactive infrastructure development. He noted that Surat already boasts Gujarat’s longest Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) route, and with the addition of the longest underpass, the city continues to lead in urban development initiatives.

The completion of the Limbayat-Dindoli underpass marks yet another step in Surat’s journey towards becoming a smart and well-connected city. As the city expands, projects like these will play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable urban mobility and economic growth.
