Surat is set to make history by introducing India’s longest ‘Women Force Route’ on its Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). This initiative will empower women by providing them with job opportunities in public transportation while ensuring safer travel for passengers. The project aligns with Surat’s vision of becoming a model city in terms of sustainable and inclusive urban mobility.
Women to Lead the Way in Surat’s BRTS
Under this new initiative, the BRTS will have dedicated buses exclusively operated by women drivers and conductors. This will not only create employment opportunities for women but also encourage gender inclusivity in the transportation sector. Surat has already introduced 100 electric buses, and this initiative is another step toward making the city’s public transport system more progressive and inclusive.
The ‘Women Force Route’ will enhance the representation of women in the workforce, providing them with training and skill development to operate and manage the buses efficiently.
A Boost for Women’s Employment and Safety
This initiative will help increase women’s participation in public service jobs, particularly in the transport sector, which has traditionally been male-dominated. Women working as drivers and conductors will receive special training and financial assistance to help them become independent professionals.
Additionally, this move is expected to improve safety for female passengers, offering a more comfortable and secure environment for women traveling across the city. The presence of female staff is likely to encourage more women to use public transport without hesitation.
Surat’s BRTS Model – A National Inspiration
Surat’s BRTS has already been recognized as a model public transport system in India. The city has continuously taken innovative steps to improve urban mobility. The launch of the ‘Women Force Route’ further strengthens Surat’s reputation as a progressive urban hub.
To facilitate this transformation, an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) has been signed with an organization that will assist in the smooth implementation of the ‘Women Force Route’ project under the ‘Women Career Route’ initiative.
With this initiative, Surat is setting a new benchmark for women’s empowerment in public transportation. The launch of the ‘Women Force Route’ will provide women with new career opportunities, promote gender equality, and ensure safer travel for all passengers.
Surat continues to lead the nation with its progressive policies and innovative transport solutions. This initiative is expected to inspire other cities across India to implement similar models, making urban transport more inclusive and efficient.
