As Surat gears up for the much-anticipated Uttarayan festival, the Surat Police, led by Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot, has introduced stringent guidelines to ensure public safety and protect animals and birds. These measures aim to strike a balance between celebration and responsibility.
Key Guidelines for Uttarayan

- Ban on Loudspeakers: To maintain peace, the use of loudspeakers during the festival is strictly banned.
- Prohibition of Dangerous Materials: The use of synthetic and plastic strings, notorious for causing injuries, is not allowed.
- Crackdown on Chinese Kites (Kandil): The purchase, sale, import, storage, possession, and flying of Chinese kites are completely banned across the city, including online platforms.
- Safety on Footpaths and Rooftops: Flying kites on footpaths and hazardous rooftops have been strictly prohibited to avoid accidents.
- No Provocative Messages: Writing inflammatory or provocative messages on kites is forbidden.
These regulations will be in effect until January 16, 2025, ensuring a safer and more harmonious Uttarayan celebration. Surat Police urges residents to adhere to these guidelines for an enjoyable and secure festival. Non-compliance may lead to strict legal action.
