🚧 10,000 Crore Development Boost – Upgrading Surat’s Roads
Mayor Mavani proudly shared that Surat, which is India’s third-largest municipality, has received a massive ₹10,000 crore budget from the Government of India to fuel future developments. As part of the immediate plan, ₹400 crore has been allocated specifically for road upgrades this year.
During the monsoon season, Surat often faces issues like drainage overflow and road damage. To address this, the municipal corporation under Mayor Mavani’s leadership has committed to replacing existing roads with full CC (cement concrete) roads a long-term, durable solution.
“This year, we are converting 57 roads into CC roads. These include 18-meter and 24-meter-wide major routes across the city,” said Mayor Mavani during the podcast.
His long-term goal? In the next 4 to 5 years, Surat will have 100% CC roads, making the city more resistant to weather challenges and providing smooth transit experiences for all commuters.
The plan is to utilize ₹400 crore each year to progressively develop all city roads under this vision an approach that reflects both financial planning and infrastructure foresight.
🚉 India’s First Multi Modal Hub – Surat Leads the Way
Another revolutionary project the Mayor revealed during the podcast is the development of India’s First Multi Modal Transportation Hub, right here in Surat.
Designed to simplify and modernize the way citizens and travelers commute, this Multi Modal Hub brings together all forms of transport under one roof including:
- GSRTC Buses
- Surat City Buses
- Taxi and Auto Rickshaw services
- Railway Services
This means no more confusion or extra travel between stations. All modes of transportation will be available at one centralized location.
What makes it even more futuristic are the state-of-the-art features:
- 36 Elevators
- 60 Escalators
- Seamless integration with Surat Railway Station
- Eco-friendly and commuter-friendly design
Currently, around 2.5 lakh people use Surat Railway Station daily, but after the completion of the Multi Modal Hub in 2027, this number is expected to rise to 5–6 lakh passengers every day.
This project is not just a city-level upgrade. It’s a national milestone, placing Surat at the center of smart transport innovation.
