Surat Railway Station’s Platforms 2 and 3 Reopen from 1st April: 115 Trains Resume Halts

Surat railway station list of trains from 1st april

Surat Railway Station is set to enhance passenger convenience with the reopening of Platforms 2 and 3 on April 1, 2025. This development marks the completion of Phase II in the station’s extensive redevelopment project, allowing 115 trains to return to their original halts at Surat.

Background: The Redevelopment Initiative

The Surat Railway Station has been undergoing a significant transformation aimed at elevating it to a world-class, multi-modal transport hub. The redevelopment, undertaken by the Surat Integrated Transport Corporation (SITCO), a collaboration between Indian Railways and the Government of Gujarat, is projected to be completed by December 2026 at an estimated cost of ₹980 crore.

Phase I of the project focused on utility relocations, including the shifting of Railway Protection Force barracks, a hospital unit, and the Running Room. The completion of the concourse work over Platform 4 marked the end of this initial phase. Phase II involved the construction of an air concourse over Platforms 2 and 3, which has now been successfully completed.

Impact on Train Operations

During the redevelopment, numerous trains were temporarily redirected to alternate stations, primarily Udhna Railway Station, to accommodate construction activities. With the reopening of Platforms 2 and 3, the following changes will take effect from April 1, 2025:

Passenger Advisory

Passengers are advised to verify the updated timetables and platform information before their journeys. While the reopening of Platforms 2 and 3 is a significant milestone, some construction activities, such as shed work, are still ongoing. This may result in limited shelter on these platforms, potentially causing discomfort during peak sunlight hours.

The completion of Phase II in the Surat Railway Station redevelopment project and the subsequent reopening of Platforms 2 and 3 signify a substantial improvement in the city’s railway infrastructure. The resumption of halts for 115 trains at Surat Station is expected to enhance travel convenience for passengers, reinforcing Surat’s role as a pivotal railway hub in Gujarat.
