Surat Updates had the honor of welcoming DCP Amita Vanani from the Traffic Police of Surat for an insightful podcast on helmet safety and traffic awareness. From 15th February, the city has been actively following the helmet rule, and DCP Vanani shed light on its importance, sharing key insights on road safety and Surat’s evolving traffic discipline.
Surat Thinks Beyond Penalties – Safety First!
While the Government of Gujarat mandates a ₹500 fine for riding without a helmet, Surat’s people don’t just fear penalties—they prioritize safety, family, and accident prevention. According to DCP Vanani, the residents of Surat are now more aware of the real dangers of not wearing a helmet rather than just worrying about fines.
Why Was the Helmet Drive Necessary?
Many questioned why the Traffic Police of Surat launched this campaign. The answer is clear 49% of accidents in 2024 were due to riders not wearing helmets. To tackle this, the police conducted a 45-day awareness campaign to educate citizens about road safety, ensuring that helmet usage becomes a habit, not just a rule.
Social Media & Technology Boosting Traffic Awareness
DCP Vanani highlighted how social media has transformed communication between citizens and the Surat Traffic Police. Messages and concerns are now received instantly, allowing authorities to take quick action. Additionally, plans are in place to improve and increase road signs for better navigation, especially benefiting senior citizens and teenagers.
The ‘Surti Lala’ Spirit & Traffic Discipline
Surat is famous for its joyful and lively people, often called ‘Surti Lala’ those who balance work, fun, and family. Initially, there was resistance to new traffic rules, but just like previous changes, Suratis adapted. Now, the helmet rule is smoothly integrated into daily life, ensuring safety without disrupting the city’s fast-paced rhythm.
A Heartfelt Message from DCP Amita Vanani
DCP Vanani concluded with a message of gratitude, stating that Surat is not just Diamond City, Silk City, and Bridge City it is now a model for traffic discipline too! She appreciated the Surat citizens for their cooperation in making roads safer and following the helmet rule with dedication.
With continued awareness and responsible driving, Surat is set to become an example of traffic safety and discipline for the entire nation!
