The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) is set to launch a daily AC Volvo bus service connecting Ahmedabad to the MahaKumbh Mela at Prayagraj. The service begins on January 27, 2025, and bookings are now open online on the GSRTC website from January 25, 2025.
This initiative is aimed at providing affordable and comfortable transportation for pilgrims from Gujarat to the MahaKumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. The service will operate from the Ranip Bus Depot in Ahmedabad.
Package Details
The bus journey is part of an Rs. 8,100 value package, which includes:
- Three nights and four days of travel and stay.
- Overnight stay at Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, which is included in the package to allow rest during the long journey.
- Dormitory accommodation at the MahaKumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
However, the package does not include meals. Pilgrims will need to make their own arrangements for food.
Service Details and Flag-Off Ceremony
The first bus service of Ahmedabad to MahaKumbh will be flagged off by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on January 27, 2025, early in the morning from Gandhinagar. According to GSRTC, the buses will cover a 1400 km journey in approximately 21 hours, with the first night stop at Shivpuri.
Minister of State for Transport Harsh Sanghavi highlighted during a press conference that buses will not park near the main Kumbh Mela site due to space constraints. Pilgrims are advised to be prepared to walk considerable distances to access the Sangam for the holy dip.
Demand for Travel Options
The introduction of this bus service comes as pilgrims face challenges in securing train tickets to Prayagraj, even after the launch of multiple special trains. While three special flights between Ahmedabad and Prayagraj have also been introduced, these flights are either fully booked or available at steep fares, making the GSRTC bus service an affordable alternative for many.

How to Book
Pilgrims can book their tickets online through the official GSRTC website. As demand is expected to be high, travelers are advised to book early to secure their seats.
With this initiative, GSRTC and the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd (TCGL) aim to ease the travel experience for thousands of devotees heading to the MahaKumbh Mela from Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat.
