The Surat city police have implemented a strict helmet mandate for two-wheeler riders. To ensure compliance, traffic police are now monitoring riders not only from the roads but also from the skies using advanced drone technology. This new surveillance system enables authorities to spot helmetless riders and take swift action against them.
Drones and CCTV Cameras in Action
Surat traffic police have activated a Drone Wing across major junctions in the city. The moment a drone is deployed, riders without helmets scramble to escape detection. Many attempt to hide behind vehicles, while others change their routes or take detours to evade fines. Some even try wearing masks or covering their faces to avoid recognition. However, their efforts go in vain as the police’s high-tech monitoring system scans their number plates, and e-challans (electronic fines) are issued instantly.
The city has 772 CCTV cameras actively monitoring the roads, ensuring that every traffic violator is identified. Within just a day of implementation, thousands of e-challans were issued, leaving many residents surprised and scrambling for excuses such as:
- “I was just going to the shop nearby!”
- “I stepped out for a quick errand, didn’t think I needed a helmet!”
- “My helmet is in my bike’s storage compartment!”
- “I simply forgot to wear it today!”
However, police remain firm, stating that multiple violations will result in license suspension.
Police Warning: No Helmet, No Excuse!
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amita Vanani stated that the enforcement is now unavoidable. With drones, CCTV cameras, and an AI-powered Public Address System, the traffic police can immediately identify, announce, and penalize violators. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city’s major intersections, and more than 40 teams are actively working to issue on-the-spot fines.
To ensure that violators cannot escape, authorities scan vehicle number plates, record details, and instantly issue e-challans. Any attempt to dodge fines or escape drone surveillance is futile, as advanced Vehicle Optical Character Recognition (VOC) technology automatically registers every offender.
Final Warning: Wear a Helmet or Pay the Fine
The Surat traffic police have issued a clear message to all two-wheeler riders:
Safety first—always wear a helmet! If you don’t, be ready to pay the fine!
Surveillance operations will continue indefinitely, and strict actions will be taken against repeat offenders. The message is clear helmets are not optional anymore!
