Heartbreaking Incident in Surat: 2-year-old child Falls Into Open Drain, Body Retrieved After a Day

Surat 2 year old child incident.

In a heartbreaking incident in Variav village, Surat, a two-year-old child named Kedar tragically fell into an open drain near Radhika Point on Amroli-Variav Road on Wednesday. Despite relentless rescue efforts spanning 24 hours, the child’s lifeless body was recovered on Thursday.

The incident has triggered public anger, with locals blaming the Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) negligence. The failure to secure the open drain has resulted in the loss of an innocent life, raising serious concerns about public safety.

Kedar was walking with his mother, Vaishali Vegad, in the Budhwari market area when he accidentally fell into the open drain filled with rainwater. The child was on his way to buy ice cream when the accident occurred. Due to the heavy water flow, he was carried far away, making rescue operations more challenging.

A team of 60-70 rescue personnel, including fire department teams and municipal authorities, worked tirelessly to locate the child. However, the search was delayed due to illegal connections to the drainage system and strong currents. Rescue teams wearing breathing suits conducted operations across storm drains and nearby creek areas.

On the second day, as hope faded, protests erupted. Hundreds of locals gathered at the site, chanting slogans and demanding accountability from the municipal corporation. The child’s grieving mother made an emotional appeal for justice.

This heartbreaking incident in Surat is even more sorrowful as Kedar had celebrated his birthday just three days before the accident. His family, especially his grandmother, was inconsolable, recalling the moments before he fell. “We don’t need anything, just our Kedar back,” she cried.
